Biography:
Initially a banker and businessman, Antoine Claudet learned the daguerreotype process from its inventor Jacques Louis Mande Daguerre in 1839. He purchased a license not long after and opened up a studio in 1841. One of only two daguerreotype studio operators in England, he became one of the first practitioners to reduce exposure time. Claudet joined the Royal Photographic Society in 1853 and later went on to experiment with the calotype and wet-collodion process. In his late career, Claudet worked in stereograph views.
