Biography:
Francois-Marius Granet studied under Jacques-Louis David before moving to Rome from 1802 to 1819. Instead of imitating David’s neoclassical style, Granet developed his own approach to his painting that was more reminiscent of 17th century Dutch paintings. He achieved success with his painting Choir of the Capuchin Church in Rome when it was unveiled at the 1819 Salon. In 1826, Granet became the curator of the Louvre and also at the Versailles museum in 1833. During the French Revolution, Granet moved to his native Aix-en-Provence and founded a museum.
