Biography:
Douglas Sutherland MacColl was a painter and art critic who wrote for the Spectator from 1890 to 1895. He was later employed at the Saturday Review from 1896 to 1906. In addition to journalism, he also published a book titled Nineteenth Century Art. MacColl was supportive of the Impressionist movement and helped spread the movement’s ideas through his writings. He served as the keeper of the Tate Gallery from 1906 to 1911 and the Wallace Collection from 1911 to 1924. In his personal artistic endeavors, he mostly painted watercolor landscapes in but also created some oil portraits.
