Biography:
Born in Sweden, Carl Milles lived in Paris from 1897 to 1904 and worked as an assitant to Rodin. He then moved to Munich from 1904 to 1906. After living a somewhat nomadic lifestyle for two years, he settled in Lindingo near Stockholm in 1908. Milles is mostly known for his large fountains. He taught sculpture at the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan from 1931 to 1945. Milles became an American citizen in 1951, but returned to Sweden in 1951 and died at Lindingo.
