Biography:
Paul Outerbridge was first employed as an illustrator and designer in New York before he adopted photography in the 1920’s. After building his reputation as a advertising photographer and graphic designer, he was hired to work in Paris for the French version of Vogue magazine. Outerbridge returned to the New York around 1930 and began exploring color photography and the carbo-color process. He was interested in female nudes, his strikingly erotic color images creating the scandal that ended his career. He moved to California in 1943 and only photographed occasionally until his death in 1958.
