Biography:
Frans Post was taught by his painter father and was the nephew of architect, Pieter Post. His early paintings were primarily Brazilian landscapes, plants, animals, and natives that were used to record the aspects of the country. Post continued to paint the South American landscapes for the duration of his career. Thirty of his paintings were given to Louis XIV of France in 1679 and later were used as tapestry designs at the Gobelins Tapestry Manufactory.
