Biography:
William Rush was born in Philadelphia. His father was a ship carpenter, thus his main material was wood. He initially began sculpting ship figureheads and progressed to free-standing figures. He was also an integral figure in the foundation of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
